Recommended dosage of LEF Super K?

Post Number:#1  Post by Montmorency » Fri Sep 11, 2015 8:44 am

I've been taking vitamins K1 & K2 for a while, but only in fairly small dosage (200 mcg) tablets.

I have now got some Life Extension Super K, and am wondering what dosage people would recommend.

Just in case what is distributed here is not identical to what is distributed in the USA, the label states:

K1 - 1000 mcg
K2-4 1000 mcg
K2-7 200 mcg

(It also contains extra virgin olive oil, gelatin, glycerin, beeswax, purified water, carob color).

Suggested dose: 1 capsule per day. Is that what people tend to take?

(I don't know for sure if I have calcification, but given my age (66), that I've had a fairly high calcium diet most of my life, and my fairly high blood pressure (140-150/85-90), I think it's safer to assume I do. If I don't, then I can perhaps get by with a lower dose for prevention, but wondering if it's worth going high for now (e.g. 2 capsules per day), and see if it makes a noticeable difference to B.P. in a relatively short time.

I've also restarted Vitamin D3 (10k IU/day for now), based on things I've read here. I used to reserve it for winter, but sunlight here this summer has been unreliable.

(Taking ascorbic acid, lysine & proline as well, of course).

I'm also overweight, but I'm working on that. :-)

I take 35 mg everyday of Thorne Research vitamin k2 drops as mk-4. With that I take 1 mg of mk-7 as Menaq7, as well as the LEF K complex. In japan 45 mg's of mk-4 is used. I would shoot for that area, and since there is no toxic dose there is nothing to worry about

InvideHealth discontinued a 0.5 mg mk-7 product some time ago. Since then Koncentrated K seems the only product available with which it is possible to get into that intake range.

Therefore, from whom you get the 1mg mk-7?

Ah, thanks. That figure of 45mg now looks familiar. Read it somewhere here, probably.

I've noticed some people on other forums complaining about odd effects with high doses, although one of those seemed to be high-ish (15mg) of mk-7, rather than mk-4. Maybe that's not such a good idea?

That's a pretty interesting website, by the way, especially his own story.
Fascinating about the vanadium deputizing for insulin. Who would have thought?

That stuff looks good; pity it's so expensive to ship here and apparently not available from UK distributors.

We can get Thorne's here, but it's pricey. (Over £60 for a 1oz bottle, at least on amazon uk. $23.50 on amazon.com.
Might be worth getting it from there I guess).

I've just stocked up with Super K, so I'll carry on with that for now, and see how it goes.

my issue is purity/safety?
how do you know what you buy is pure
I use consumerlabs, you'd be shocked at the supps that have lead or are not the dose they claim

superK is reviewed by consumerlabs and is the cheapest/mg vit K product out there

@blade: Thanks. Yes, purity / safety is a valid concern of course.

Anyway, for any other UK-ers who happen to read this, I came across this relatively high-dose (mk-4 only) product:

http://www.yourhealthbasket.co.uk/index ... tail&p=664

"Peak" brand, 15mg per vegicap.

I haven't done the arithmetic on the price/mg, but anyway, it's another high-dose option.
...looks like £0.03 per mg.
About $.05/mg?

So if you took 45mg per day, then $2.25 per day.

UK shipping adds about 0.3 of a cent / mg. (0.2 UK pennies) Not too bad I guess.

Purity and safety is a concern with any supplement, but by using products from companies that are used by doctors and are industry leaders in quality such as Allergy Research Group/Nutricology,Thorne Research, and Pure Encapsulations, you can rest assured you're getting what you are paying for.

I found a 2300 pills for $1 at Samsclub.com, but I'd stick with SuperK from life extension as it's been tested and shown to be pure and contain the ingredients listed on the label :D
