IV of pure ascorbic acid?

Can you give an iv of pure ascorbic acid? In Dr. Susan Humphries video she says that you can't, and that it has to be buffered with sodium ascorbate, why is this? thanks

AA is too acidic injected directly in the blood. SA - The sodium lowers the PH level(less acidic) making it closer to PH of blood.
