I take quite a bit (varies from 4 - 8 grams per day, depending on bowel tolerance and health) of time-release C and have been doing so for years. I also take pure ascorbic acid or sodium ascorbate powder twice a day, morning and night. My rationale is that an extended low dose constantly trickling into my bloodstream should keep my blood levels higher, longer, and more closely mimic what the livers/kidneys of most other animals do.
I've also found a certain brand of time-release C pills to have possible additional pain-killing effects, but that's a story for another thread. I've made posts in other threads about it if you're interested.
