If I remember correctly, after the polio vaccine was released they also changed the definition of the disease, taking the large set of symptoms used to diagnose polio and reducing them to sub groups and then rebranding them as other diseases. Kind of akin to running covid19 PCR tests @ 40-45 cycles then reducing to a normal 24 or less cycles and covid would vanish over night and the vaccines would be hailed as a huge success.
