So we know that vitamin c is a natural antibacterial and a natural anti viral. Yet there are beneficial bacteria in our colon. And also beneficial virus like bacteriophages that infect and destroy harmful bacteria.

So does vitamin c destroy the good and the bad bacteria and viruses? Therefore is taking vitamin c in high doses a wash?

I don't think it's bad I'm just trying to understand it better.

We looked into this question years ago. The answer seems to be that there both beneficial (non toxic) and toxic intestinal flora, and that vitamin C promotes healthy flora and helps control toxic flora. The mechanism is probably as Dr. Levy describes in his book PRIMAL PANACEA where he explains that all toxins are oxidants, and that vitamin C by its nature neutralizes all toxins.

Also, unless you hit vitamin C bowel tolerance, the vitamin C is entering the blood stream before it reaches the bowels. As we discovered, ascorbic acid can enter the blood stream in 3 minutes through the stomach lining.
