As if anyone needed convincing, an extensive government study showed that the simpler, much cheaper and way less risky diuretic drugs performed better than the more recent ones that the big drug companies are pushing. See the following article in the NY Times -

Thanks for posting.
I was sitting on a plane last night, across and behind a gentleman who was apparently a cardiologist, because he was intensely studying a Nov 2008 journal titled "CLINICAL CARDIOLOGY." He seemed like a nice man, and was busily underlining what he thought were important points in all the articles.
I didn't say anything, what would have been the point? But it made me realize how much mental effort is wasted reading these inherently biased studies! Maybe not every person in every drug company is evil, but at least some are.
