How to lower cholesterol?

Post Number:#1  Post by FishermansWife » Mon Mar 23, 2015 1:26 pm

My mom has 30 days to lower her very high cholesterol before her doctor puts her on medication. She did not give me numbers. I told her to start taking vitamin c and niacin. How much is enough niacin? Is there anything else she can do? She has no thyroid if that matters. She also smokes.

You should have the numbers .... to evaluate whether it is really necessary to lower the cholesterol ...
Docs would tell you that the magic border is 200 (or even 190), however I know that limit was established between two man
on the corridor before some med event many years ago... anyway I know that about 250 is perfectly okay ...
it varies for men and women (for women is even higher as far as I remember)

Anyway if you would like to lower the cholesterol vitamin E with gamma tocotrienols can do it withing 4 - 6 weeks ...

ALL of the stuff I go on about influences cholesterol!
The thyroid not only matters, it is key. I am taking it that her thyroid was removed? And she is getting some amount of "thyroid hormone"?

Excerpt from: British Medical Journal 11 Dec 1954
A NEW THERAPY FOR PREVENTION OF POST-OPERATIVE RECURRENCES IN
GENITAL AND BREAST CANCER
A SIX-YEARS STUDY OF PROPHYLACTIC THYROID TREATMENT*
BY ALFRED A. LOESER, M.D.

You can find this complete by searching on the above BOLD title/author. Strongly suggest you, she, all women, and all doctors do so.
It is a PDF so hard to work from.

"Blood Lipids in Hypothyroid and Hyperthyroid Women
In the 40-60 years age group, 59 women were examined
for lipid content of the blood. Plasma cholesterol, lipid
phosphorus. total lipids, and neutral fats were determined
in the department of clinical investigation of the London
Clinic. Since women in this age group possess more fatty
tissue than younger women, it was not surprising to find
higher values of blood lipids. When oestrogens are given
to these women the blood lipids rise still more, whereas
androgens have no marked influence on the lipid level
(Gertler and Oppenheimer, 1953).
Hypothyroid women, by contrast with hyperthyroid. show
a very elevated lipid level, but after thyroid treatment the
lipids decrease considerably. In three women with inoperable
breast carcinoma and two with inoperable ovarian
carcinoma, who received massive doses of tiyroid hormone
up to 25 gr. (1.6 g.) daily for four to six weeks-which
made them temporarily thyrotoxic. the lipids declined to a
very low level and the inoperable cancer growth decreased
in size. Two cases of previously inoperable breast cancer
became operable; one of these patients is still alive, and
after two years was clinically cured. Already, 53 years ago,
Beatson tried to influence inoperable breast cancer by
oophorectomy and massive thyroid doses; and before him,
in 1887, Schinzinger was the first to remove the ovaries in
breast cancer cases. Removal of the gonads or adrenalsas
I see it supports the production of more thyroid hormone
and acts in this way. Gonadectomy and adrenalectomy
can therefore be replaced by thyroid medication.
A low level of lipids in the blood in cancer cases is a
prereqLuisite for the prophylactic treatment of cancer recurrence.
Such a condition is found-as our investigations
have shown in hyperthyroid and often in allergic conditions.
and, as is seen from Table I, the incidence of cancer
is lowest in these two groups lower, in fact. than among
the average population."

And read this: end to end: http://www.altmedrev.com/publications/9/2/157.pdf
Give that to the quack too.

And remember that the T4-T3-T2-T-1-T0 conversions are strictly selenium dependent.

I find it truly appalling, what Med has done and continues doing to women.

Thank you thank you!! My mother has a habit of forgetting her thyroid medicine. So what I read its quite possible her forgetting this could have been the cause of elevated lipid levels? I will get her number and share back. I worry because she creates a very stressful life and her mother died of a heart attack in her 60's. I will have her pick up some vitamin e as well.

When i started niacin and built it up slowly it took away my urge to smoke, another great side effect of niacin. Hopefully it will be the same for your Ma.

The best way to lower cholesterol... wait for it.. Take vitamin C in large enough quantities to do the job.

There is the Emil Ginter scholarly work on the relationship between vitamin C and cholesterol. We have abstracts in our "clinical studies" forum and they go on and on and on, and the Ginter work was summarized by Pauling in HOW TO LIVE LONGER AND FEEL BETTER. (A random thought, Pauling did point out that Fructose can elevate cholesterol?? I'll have to reread, but maybe all I need is High Fructose Corn Syrup to raise my own (very low) cholesterol! Oppps.. but they have integrated pesticide into corn seeds, so that when the corn grows, it is a natural pesticide. Damn it, I am not sure I want to eat a pesticide even to raise my cholesterol!)

Back to Ginter - his work showed that our bodies like 180 mg/dl of cholesterol as much as they like 90 mg/dl blood sugar (glucose). he found, as Pauling reported, that taking higher dosages of vitamin C "normalizes" total cholesterol to 180 mg/dl.

It is unknown (at least by me) how long it takes for cholesterol levels to normalize (especially since cholesterol in the arterial wall may be released for awhile.)

Question: Wasn't it recently big news that cholesterol no longer matters? Can't your mother ask pointed questions of her doctors? (While she clandestinely tries the "proven" high vitamin C approach to lowering cholesterol?

I was thinking the same thing. There's so much out there now that higher cholesterol is better. But I'm going to use this scare her doctor gave her to get her body to a healthy state. Im glad vitamin c can do the job, that's what I was hoping. With the niacin its likely the flush will scare her away. Thanks!

My total cholesterol came down from 203 to 163 after a year. It might not have taken that long but I got it checked annually and they were the 2 readings, so I don't know if it was 163 after 3 months etc.

I take niacin and VC daily, amongst other supplements, and understand that those 2 will have resulted in my lower cholesterol number. I'm not taking them to lower it as the VC is for multiple reasons and my main reason for starting with Niacin was due to high blood pressure.

I find it funny that we will take our car in to the mechanic and be told,"you need to replace your "johnson rod" and we are skeptical and get a 2nd or 3rd opinion
but a MD/DO wants us to go on a medication or get a scan(CT vs MRI) we go, SIR! YES SIR!
ie

I was told something similar by my GP a few years ago when I had 200+ cholestrol
I simply lost fat(35% bf-->14% bf% and my cholesterol fell to 150.

Remember!: MDs arent all looking out for us, they are making money or doing what they once-upon-a time were told was right
so why do we implicitly trust mds?

firstly, MDs are getting older and the less age a MD has the less experience, less quality care you'll receive
BUT
a MD growing old is like anyone growing old
function declines
