are you a type 2 diabetic and needs some insulin and are fat, then likely yes

depends what you are on

40mg omeprazole = acid reducer
0.8mg tamsulosin prostate
850mg metformin (twice a day) diabetes
325 mg aspirin (together with plavix and for niacin)
1000mg niacin = cholesterol
10mg cetirizine = allergies

Sorry - way behind and I promise to post the Spanish chapter.

I do not feel competent to discuss your drugs and would refer you to johnwens post that begins "So you have a full metal jacket.." http://vitamincfoundation.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=11974#p40330 I also found much of the conversation so far distracting. If you can summarize any current questions and let us know how you are feeling so far on the Pauling protocol, I would appreciate it.

OK then I will wait to get some updated blood test and i will send them to johnwens if that is OK with him. I would not like to post publicly my blood profile or whatever the name for it is.

Next 29thI will know, as I go to the doctor that day.

Thanks so far or all the info and yes I have been reading the post that johnwens posted for me and the other fellow whose name i don't recall now. I have also read your contribution and I already have a battery of questions to ask my doctor. Hopefully she will be open to help me with this.

If not, at least I will have my blood test results and will have to take it with a grain of salt. Hopefully johnwens will be willing to help me.

I really want to get off all the (bad) "medicine" that I've been taking all these years, thinking that my doctors really wanted to help me.

Chile,
Fix the fuel. I am guessing that many if not all of your health issues are related to your diet. Have a look at heartattackproof.com and drmcdougall.com. These are websites created by physicians with outstanding reputations and excellent credentials. Both have many talks on youtube.

McDougall has a great talk about curing type 2 diabetes.

Atenolol is a beta-blocker. Nothing to do with cholesterol. Is your physician aware that you are taking both Plavix and aspirin?

I will do that. Well, whatever Atenolol is for I've been taking it since around 2004. Yes, the doctor was the one that gave me Plavix and Aspirin. Told me to always take it together.

Thank you for your input.

Chili -

I noted that both of these websites and doctors are from the vegan camp. Eating pasta dishes with herbs and green leaves is NOT the answer to losing weight and curing diabetes.

May I suggest you think about the idea of simple food; eggs, milk (whole), grass-fed butter and grass-fed meat (if possible) - along with veggies and some fruit. What is causing our national weight problem and the spike in diabetes is not only the drugs doctors give us (statins in particular) but also the preoccupation of carbs (bread, pasta, potatoes, etc.) and sugar in all of our diets.

As to vegan diets, man is not a cow with several stomachs to digest plant food and grass. Over millions of years, we developed the requirement to eat meat - and despite what many will tell you, eating meat is good, and good for you.

You should consider a low-carb, high fat diet. Pasta and other carbs simply turn to sugar in your bloodstream; meat and protein do not.

Please go to these websites for additional information: http://authoritynutrition.com/low-carb- ... -and-menu/ and http://www.dietdoctor.com/

Good luck!

I will be interested in johnwen's thoughts on your numbers (and the changes).

What were the intervals between these tests. The dates?

Review please, what have been the major changes you have made to your regimen? There is a lot of "bad advice" in this thread, in my opinion, especially the suggestion to adopt a "plant based" diet. Your problem seems to be too many carbohydrates. I agree with a recent poster that adopting a low-carb diet, not worrying about fats (so long as they are healthy fats, not fats from processed foods) will benefit you.

I tend to key in on total cholesterol, and if you copied the numbers correctly

cholesterol 120L 147H 228H 222H

Your cholesterol was like mine, very low, but then sky rocketed! I have a personal interest in understanding exactly what you have done, as I may want to copy it.

The sugar and ha1c are "slightly" elevated, what they probably call pre-diabetic.

I hope johnwen has an idea why your platelets have increased .

Hard to tell without a measured Lp(a) how you are progressing visa vis CVD. The increase in cholesterol may indicate a problem, but usually when people start high vitamin C, their cholesterol drops.

They are at the top: 8/1/2014 4/10/2015 6/17/2015 10/8/2015

Nothing major really. What I did was to stop the lipitor at the end of May 2015 and started VIT C, Lysine and Proline and from the middle of August I started drinking vegetables and fruits juices, mostly green juices. Yes, I eat bread almost every day. I started to eat less pastas and bread a week ago. I have to begin eating more salads, beans and potatos.

Back in 2006 I tried the Atkins diet, I did well for 4 or 6 months until I started eating bread again, and I bounced back to weigh more than i have ever been. I should be weighing about 150 lbs and I went up to 232lbs. Now I am at 222lbs and i think I am going down again. All in all I guess I have to eat less and I need the fiber.

Yes, those are the figures...and I outlined what I did.

I have diabetes type II. I take Metformin 850 mg twice a day.

I hope to get help from you guys. Neither of my doctors want to know anything outside the big pharma plan. I have to try get me another doctor that will work with me in order to get this LP(a) tests included in my blood work.

This month was lower and I want to see what will it be next time. My cardiologist wants to put two stents in my leg, said that I could wait some time but that I have to do it.

I would like to inquire here if taking extra supplements will help to reduce the plaque buildup, such as:

CoQ10
Vitamin D3
Magnesium
B12
B6
Folic acid

I take a B complex and it only is for the 100% RDA recommendation. Should I take 2 or more the recommended amount? What about the other ones I listed up there?

Foods like curcumin, garlic, turmeric along with the supplements etc?

Please help.

Thank you in advance.

Okay so stopping the statin drug explains the rise in total cholesterol. By taking the drug, you were masking the symptom. That level of cholesterol suggests that your body is fighting some kind of "fire" and that you should be taking even more vitamin C.

As a Type 2 diabetic I cannot over emphasize the importance of reading Bernstein (but ignoring what he says about vitamin C!). Go to the library and read Richard K Bernstein's DIABETIES SOLUTION (latest edition). That will explain the problem with your diet, why you are gaining weight and how to avoid most of the symptoms of diabetes. Also know that the more carbohydrates you eat, the more vitamin C you need for a variety of reasons. Conversely, going on the Bernstein (Atkins-like) low carb diet, you should require less vitamin C to do the same job.

As far as the supplements, the core is the basic Linus Pauling recommendations made around page 14 in the 1986 book HOW TO LIVE LONGER AND FEEL BETTER, e.g. vitamins A and E too.

6-18 grams vitamin C
400-800 iu vitamin E (best is Unique-E from AC Grace)
25000 iu vitamin A
1 or 2 Super B complexes
A multi vitamin/mineral
Drink lots of water and reduce sugar intake.

From there we expand to lysine/proline, Coq10 after age 40, vitamin K and vitamin D (D preferably from sunlight) and magnesium.

According to Roger J. Williams, magnesium may be able to help with circulation in the legs.

The late Dr. Atkins wrote that if doctors were aware of the benefits of taurine, it would be a front-line tool in the fight against heart disease (presumably because it assists the body utilize fat soluble vitamins. Recent report at Life Extension credits taurine with growing new brain cells, a feat previously thought impossible.

Do you know more or less the dosage for the following, I am a 62 yo guy:

CoQ10
Vit K (k1 and/or k2? or both?)
Vit D
Magnesium
Taurine

I am taking 15g Vit C, 6g Lysine and 1g Proline. How much higher should I up the Vit C? When and if I get my readings normal, should I decrease that amount of Vit C?

Thank you in advance.

Specially considering your age:

Vitamin D: Start supplementing 5000 IU of D3 best absorbed in softgels or oily drops, along with getting your 25(OH)D3 serum levels tested every half year and longer periods later on. Many recommend levels for CVD above 50 ng/ml and up to 80.

Vitamin Ks: Best test would be undercarboxylated Osteocalcin with a range ≤ 0.5 ng/ml. Unfortunately, that test isn't widely available and since in the experience of those that have taken that test it's very difficult to reach with even huge, non-toxic amounts of a combination of all K Vitamins, is best to take at least 1 or 2 of LEFs Super-K daily. I prefer http://www.k-vitamins.com/ with amounts coming closer to doses clinically used to tread osteoporosis in Japan.

CoQ10: At least 200 mg/d day of Ubiquinol (note, there is also cheaper Ubiquinone or regular CoQ10, with in my anecdotal experience half the efficacy) to raise serum CoQ10 to a therapeutic level of 3.5 µg/ml. In my anecdotal experience again already 140 mg for years finally brought mine just recently tested to 3.3 µg/ml. However, if you don't have access to such tests, better err on the higher side due to its non-existing toxicity (just as with the K vitamins).

Magnesium: Best get your RBC-level up to ≥ 6 mg/dl. Serum tests for Mg are almost useless. In my case have severe Mg deficiency, and need to supplement 2 g/d of elemental Mg just to avoid muscle-cramps. But this whooping dose still didn't helped to get blood levels up in my case. Best get tested here too.

Taurine: Specially on a vegetarian diet, anything between 1-3 g/d.

Vitamin C: If you're treating a particular condition it makes sense to up the dose for a while just below where you would get gastrointestinal side-effects. For convenience, decrease the dose once the condition has eased again.
