LP-PLA2 measures the activity of the Lp-PLA2 enzyme associated with LDL particles when they are oxidized. David G. Harrison, MD, FACC, FAHA of Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA, notes,
if one has an elevated PLAC® test, it indicates that the person has [inflamed] atherosclerotic plaques in which LDL oxidation is occurring.
My LP-PLA2 score was recently 321. Recommended level < 200
I also have coronary calcium measured by Electron Beam Tomography at 665.
My blood work numbers are mostly encouraging:
CRP is < 0.10
Homocysteine: 9.8
Ferritin: 92
Cholesterol total: 172
HDL: 87
Triglycerides: 73
LDL: 70
But:
Lp(a): 25 - Recommended level < 20
LP-PLA2: 321 - Recommended level < 200
The number that concerns me is the last one LP-PLA2
I'm taking 15 - 20 grams of vitamin C per day.
Vitamin MK-7 and MK-4 total about 40 mg per day.
Numerous other antioxidants and minerals
I've been reading about Superoxide Dismutase, which sounds like it might be helpful.
