how do I prevent heart failure?

Well what causes heart failure?
-Lack of Vitamin C?
-Coronary artery disease?

CAD
Heart attacks
cadiomyopathy(damage to heart caused by drugs/infection/booze)

I thought we answered/discussed this in another topic.

According to Bernstein ALL diabetics with uncontrolled blood sugar suffer cardiomyopathy because the muscles become damaged. (Apparently the result of the "nerve" damage that results from high blood sugar).

Another type of cardiomyopathy - statin-induced cardiomyopathy - results from the lack of CoQ10 (The enzyme that cleaves ATP resulting in energy for the cell). Statins (cholesterol-lowering drugs) interfere with the body own ability to make Coq10 and depending on diet, there may not be enough CoQ10 in foods to overcome the statin interference.

Reading the latest Life Extension Magazine about the AMPK enzyme that is depleted as we age and is related to cellular energy and this may also be a piece of the puzzle. (Exercise or calorie restriction are two life style changes that increase the AMPK enzyme activity)

So the direct answer is

a) Control your blood sugar - Bernstein's target is 83 mg/dl
b) Do not take statin cholesterol lowering drugs
c) After age 40 or so, begin supplementing with CoQ10 (at least 200 mg - eat with fats)
d) Exercise

For me my family history on the men's side was always against me. Mum gene's holding me together. Smoking was a big thing in our family, thank goodness I was sick smoking my first time. Never did it again. I was put on a statin in my forties but have now said no to them. Didn't do me any good. So Family history for me. My advice try Vitamin C plus Lysine and proline. Regards nineboy.
