lp(a) went up

Post Number:#1  Post by hvc » Fri Mar 11, 2016 11:52 am

Been doing PT for about 2.5 months. just got back blood test results and my lp(a) went up. Is that normal?

Side note: I take 10gm of vit c a day. I go to an integrated doctor who is also a certified nutritional specialist. I had gotten up to 29gm per day, with some gas being my only problem. Dr. told me to go back to 10 gm (not because of the gas). I checked with my Dr. of oriental medicine who felt 10gm was good as well.

What where the numbers, and are they computed or measured (Lp(a))?

Are you still on drugs?

We have long said the empirically, 10,000 mg of vitamin C daily is apparently protective of chronic scurvy (aka heart disease) in most people. However, we are all different and if you can take nearly 30,000 mg, this means that your body is under stress and metabolizing the vitamin in high amounts. Given this, you should take more until your bowel tolerance decreases (as the stress is reduced.)

Thanks for the reply Owen. I don't know if the lp(a) is computed or measured. Is there a way for me to tell from the test results? my number went from 49 to 56 to 56.5.

I am not taken any statins or other drugs other than vitamins and minerals.

Is there an upper limit for the vitamin c?

How quickly should I expect to see a decrease in lp(a)?

The upper oral limit for vitamin C is where your bowel tolerance kicks in. There is no known upper harmful limit and half the vitamin C in the blood is gone in 30 minutes.

Many people have reported drops in Lp(a), including myself and johnwen, and the time frame seems to be one year when proline is added and sufficient. Since the FDA has allowed Lp(a) to be computed, it can be confusing.

Assuming your numbers are measured (and mg/dl) then they are very high, meaning it is more important for you to neutralize the Lp(a) in the blood with the Pauling/Rath invention of Lp(a) binding inhibitors - vitamin C, lysine (and proline)
