L-Arginine or L-Citrulline for recent bypass patient

Post Number:#1  Post by ChuckArbogast » Fri Mar 25, 2016 8:14 pm

I had bypass surgery, that used both arteries and veins on Oct. 23rd, 2015. I have seen here that I should get my Nitric Oxide levels up but I wasn't sure what was the best way.
What should I use? L-Arginine or L-citrulline?
What else should be used with it?
How soon after the bypass surgery should I start taking it?
What would be the proper dosage?

I take Vit. C and lysine at the moment, along with CoQ10 and Vitamin K2. I plan on getting on Vitamin A soon and start Vitamin E as soon as I run it by my doctor.

My prescription medications, which I want to stop taking, are as follows:
- Atorvastatin, 10mg once daily
- Aspirin, 81mg once daily
- Lisinopril, 5mg once daily
- Metoprolol, 25mg once daily

Please let me know the best path to take as I don't want these to block back up.

Thanks,
Chuck

take citrulline
http://www.peaktestosterone.com/Citrull ... efits.aspx
also take vit C, 5+ grams
vit K2(ie http://www.allstarhealth.com/de_p_ref/3 ... Auha8P8HAQ)

and a better diet to get more nitrates

read this to understand how/why a high nitrate diet is so good for you
http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/90/1/1.full.pdf
and you'll see in that article, Nature’s Way Garden Veggies is a pill that is a good source of nitrates(table 5)

dont forget your
vit D
magnessium
vit Bs

blade,
Thanks for the information. I'm already taking Vitamin C (12g/day), lysine (g/day), VK2, VD3, CoQ10, Omega 3's & a B-complex at the moment. I'm researching Vitamin A & E, Magnesium and as this post mentions arginine/citrulline.

You say to take citrulline but you didn't say how much per day?
How soon after the bypass surgery should I start taking it? Immediately or after a period of time?
Would an Arginine and Citrulline complex be better than just Citrulline?
I think I saw you shouldn't take arginine with lysine as they compete with each other, is that true with citrulline too?
Thanks again,
Chuck

1) If your purse permits, up to 3 grams a day. Some recommendations go up to 6 grams daily.
2) Can't comment how long to wait after the Bypass. Better ask a doc.
3) Citrulline usually comes complexed with Malate; when Arginine is complexed with Alpha-ketaglutarate it's usually sold as slow-release version. Both of them are additionally healthy.
4) Competition in absorption between lysine and arginine could be prevented by taking them separate (though I highly doubt this competition would cancel each other completely). And though I'm not sure, I believe that the complexes through different dynamics would be less affected by competition.

The answer will tell you a great deal about the doctor :)

I'm not sure what this cardiologist with say but my last one just said that people with CVD shouldn't take Vitamin E.

Do you have anything that I can give this one if he says the same thing? I don't have my appointment until mid May, so I have time.

Do you think I should just go ahead and start taking some before seeing the cardiologist?

Thanks,
Chuck
