Does new Brilinta block vitamin K?

Post Number:#1  Post by ofonorow » Thu Jan 12, 2017 12:53 pm

Dear Owen Fonorow

My name is [ deleted] I am a big fan of your book. I would like you to ask about details regarding VIT K2. I am taking now blood thinner (Brilinta) after my two stents procedure and I taking also Vitamin K2. In your book I found information that taking blood thinners with Vit K2 can be dangerous creating calcification in soft tissues. I tried to find some deeper information on website but I could not find any details about it. All information I found is about relation between blood thinners and regular Vit K not K1 or K2. Should I stop supplement myself with K2MK7 until I will finished my 12 months blood thinner period?

Thank you very much

T.

It would depend whether Brilinta works like Warfarin (or heparin) and uses a vitamin K receptor. Johnwen?

Looking a wikipedia, it is not a "blood thinner", but acts more like Plafix - super aspirin that prevents platelet aggreatation.

Ticagrelor (Brilinta) is a anti-platelet Drug which is in the same class as Plavix. Basically it’s not a blood thinner per se and has no effect on or is affected by anything related to Vitamin K metabolism.

So any derivative or sub class of V-K has no effect on it’s method of preventing platelet blocking.

D3 has had some rare effects, however in discovery it seems the people it affected were taking very high doses. So don’t over do the D3 while on this drug.

As with any prescription drug it is always best to discuss taking any other substance while taking a prescription drug with the doctor who prescribed it.

When you say don't over do D3 while taking Brilinta,
would 5000iu daily and a 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25- OHD ). Level of 71 be considered over doing?
thanks
