PLAC Lp-PLA2 enzyme

Post Number:#1  Post by DiverDown2 » Sun Jun 30, 2019 5:49 am

My Cardiologist won't order a CAC test.
Is it possible to use this test "PLAC Lp-PLA2" to see if PT is working, It Identifies Atherosclerotic Plaques Ready to Rupture.
Could you not get this and then retest every 6-12 months and see if it drops while using PT? If your #'s go down it seem that would prove PT is working.

Like so many other risk markers in blood, it is good to have low values and therefore lower risk. It however doesn't show even a tiny bid if plaque is progressing or regressing. Only imaging does. Try to get a maximum carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) measurement with ultrasound instead. The easiest way to measure plaque growth.

The problem with plaque progressing even despite low risk marker is, that it progresses at least a 30% each year (even on statin and low risk markers). That means with an initial CAC score or lets say 500, a year later is 666, the second year 999, a third year 1333, and so on exponentially, till the next catastrophe. Only imaging shows if it is progressing or regressing
