Lp(a) vs CAC AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT

Post Number:#1  Post by johnjackson » Sun Oct 20, 2019 6:32 pm

I need help understanding the difference between Lp(a) ((measured) and the CAC.. coronary calcium scoring

and then what to do about it

Is there a link to an explanation?

I think I know stuff..
https://www.lipoproteinafoundation.org/ ... erstandLpa

lp(a) is
some in your blood is "normal
higher Lpa means you have more atherosclerosis or fatty deposits in your arteries
About 20% or one in five people have high levels of Lp(a) greater than 50mg/dL (500 mg/L) from birth based on genetic factors they inherited from their parents, and most don’t know they have it.
As high levels of Lp(a) travel through the bloodstream, it collects in the arteries, leading to gradual narrowing of the artery that can limit blood supply to the heart, brain, and kidneys as well as the legs. It can increase the risk of blood clots, heart attack or stroke.

what to do about a high LP(a)
dont be fat
BMI under 25 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22530540
take 10+ grams vit C(1 gram every 2 hours or so)
lysine/proline few grams(5+)
vit k2

high CAC
this means you have lots of calcium in your arteries

do what you'd do for high Lp(a_) but take more k2

I agree with much of what is said here
https://jeffreydachmd.com/how-to-revers ... ium-score/

cept
citrilline.
more vit C
more k2

Under the Pauling/Rath theory, Lp(a) acts as a surrogate for chronically low levels of vitamin C.

What makes up the plaques in arteries is a different matter, and calcium scores seem to be dependent on vitamin K (and/or vitamin K depleting drugs, e.g. warfarin)

thanks, Owen
So I have low Lp(a), recently got tested just because..
I was on Pauling THerapy for 5-6yrs before because high or low Lp(a), didnt matter, PT that is what you do when you have high Lp(a) and for general health.

now I am thinking about my CAC score....
it is much harder to get a MRI or CT scan to measure CAC, than a simple bloood test to measure Lp(a_

so how do I lower a CAC score?

Is it as simple as:
Pauling therapy+more lysine and more k2?

I mentioned Dr Dach has a site deditcated to lowering CAC
https://jeffreydachmd.com/how-to-revers ... ium-score/

he says stuff like
a) Reduction of LDL to 60 mg/dl (LDL should be measured directly, not calculated)
b) Reduction of triglycerides to 60 mg/dl.
c) Raising HDL to 60 mg/dl.
-get normal BP
-get normal sugars< 100mg/dl
- crp <1ng
Niacin
wine
flaxseed
more protien(yeah, LYSINE)
more fiber
1-3g vitC
mg
arginine(no, citrilline is better)
Normalize thyroid/sex hormones

-Dr dach throws everything at you, like they do when they tell you how to prevent heart disease.. so I find his info rather cookie cutter/generalized and since heart disease is the #1 killer, this info isnt working

SO what does the Vitamin C foundation say on how to lower CAC?
id imagine there is a page that describes PT and/or how to reduce CAC score, but I cannot find it.

In my case (and my wife's) simply taking Cardio-C, Pauling's other recommendations PLUS vitamin K, has kept both our calcium scores at zero.

If your is not zero, are you taking ANY medications? Any drugs at all?

I havent tested mine, Id need a Rx to get it done(I think) the lp(a) test was easy via LF

I am not on any medication, aside from PT nutrients..... since being on PT, I dont get sick, or even take zyrtec for nasal congestion from the dusty building I work in
My boss still takes zyrtec daily, I take nothin like it, cept AA

my mom got her Lp(a) tested 2x
once calculated 177
once measured 195

she takes 10 grams AA day, 10 grams lysine and 2 vit k2 pills from Koncenrated k--25mg mk4 and .5mg mk 7
she is on a plant based diet(no meat/low(no) dairy)
she also takes 500mg niacin daily

what else can she do?
--she on blood pressure medication and has more than 1 root canal

Those are good Lp(a) scores assuming the units are nmol/l where 170 is normal.

I gooogled ranges and
L. A normal level is less than 30 mg/dL (300 mg/L) or less than 75 nmols/L. Levels higher than this are associated with an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, or narrowed arteries supplying blood to vital organs,
so her measured range of 195nmol/L isnt that bad?

but mine ix <8.4 nmol/L

Im retesting her in 6 months, the only change is more AA/lysine/vitk2

I stand corrected - yes 70 is the normal in nmol/l

dang it!
I think her issue is all her root canals
shehad cancer in 08, had a lump removed, lost 80lbs and has kept it off since then and eats a DASH diet way.(lots of veggies.fruits, some nuts, little to fat, dairy, meat)

I dont know what to do with her though
will more niacin help ? she takes 100mg day
