Progression of coronary artery calcium and risk of first myocardial infarction in patients receiving cholesterol-lowering therapy
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15059806/
Conclusions: Progression of CAC was significantly greater in patients receiving statins who had an MI compared with event-free subjects despite similar LDL control. Continued expansion of CAC may indicate failure of some patients to benefit from statin therapy and an increased risk of having cardiovascular events

"Low blood vitamin C concentrations in the older British population are strongly predictive of mortality."

Antioxidant vitamins and mortality in older persons: findings from the nutrition add-on study to the Medical Research Council Trial of Assessment and Management of Older People in the Community

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14594788/
Results: We found strong inverse trends for blood ascorbate (vitamin C) concentrations with all-cause and cardiovascular disease mortality, which were only marginally reduced after adjustment for confounders or supplement use.

Conclusion: Low blood vitamin C concentrations in the older British population are strongly predictive of mortality.

The challenge is to find a single study (out of thousands that have been run on the statins) where statins improved overall mortality. This UK study measured blood levels.

Vitamin C and risk of coronary heart disease in women

2003 Harvard: 15-YEAR HARVARD STUDY OF 85,000 FINDS SINGLE VITAMIN C PILL REDUCES HEART DISEASE ALMOST 30%.
Interestingly, dietary intake of vitamin C seemed to have little effect on coronary heart disease risk. But if women used vitamin C supplements, their risk was reduced by 27 percent. According to the numbers in [this story]bad link A single 360 mg vitamin C pill daily would save more than 300,000 lives per year.
