Minerals Imbalance

This forum will focus on the interesting topic of titrating oral vitamin C intake to so-called bowel tolerance, the point just prior to the onset of diarrhea

Minerals Imbalance

Post Number:#1  Post by tkud8 » Wed Jan 23, 2013 11:26 pm

I am not sure if this has been discussed before but..

When Bowel Tolerance has exceeded and caused loose stool most times, even with small amout of C especially during illness, won't the minerals in the body will go out of balance?
Wouldn't be dangerous for a child that is already very weak due to illness?
What should be suplemented when megodosing of Vit. C during illness?

TIA!
Dee

If you produce constant diarrhea then yes. Otherwise, if you keep it in sub-diarrheal dose then only slightly. Diarrhea should happen only once, not constantly. You take 75% of the dose to produce diarrhea to prevent that. Due to latency, when flatulence becomes nasty, you should reduce the dose and keep stomach rumbling.
Its always good to supplement your vit C in such large amounts with mineral waters containing most importantly Mg, then Ca, then everything else. Hydration is also essential.

Good answer above.

If you (or child) follows Pauling's regimen, there should be no issue. (Which includes a daily multivitamin/multimineral, lots of water, etc.)

So the danger is from not having enough vitamin C for metabolic needs during periods of illness/stress.

Only those minerals in the blood, in general, would be in theoretical danger of being lost, so any need would be long, not short term.

Good advice to perhaps increase zinc/magnesium, but remember that minerals (unlike the vitamins) can be toxic, especially the trace minerals.

As far as to what else to supplement, high on the list should be vitamin D(3) (or better yet, sunshine!), and vitamin A. Each has its own strong anti infection properties.
