IV/C May Prevent Kidney Injury from Antibiotic

According to Wiki, "colistin (polymyxin E) is a polymyxin antibiotic...Colistin is a decades-old drug that fell out of favor due to its nephrotoxicity. It remains one of the last-resort antibiotics for multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Acinetobacter."
A new study suggests that IV/C given at the same time patients are given this antibiotic helps prevent the Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) that it can cause.

In severely ill patients receiving colistin according to a PK/PD-driven dosing approach, baseline renal impairment and older age strongly predict AKI occurrence, but concomitant administration of ascorbic acid markedly reduces AKI risk, allowing safer use of colistin.
