Are vitamin C and E good for your heart? How much should you consume daily?
https://indianexpress.com/article/lifestyle/health-specials/vitamin-c-e-heart-health-multivitamins-8179504/

This was almost a good article, except
But the daily requirement for the human body is about 4 mg for vitamin E and 75-90 mg for vitamin C. Anything in excess is harmful for the body and consumption of higher dosage can lead to greater risk to the health. Studies have shown that excess consumption of both these vitamins can lead to side effects like nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, rashes, bleeding, and renal stones.

Even if this were true, which I doubt,

Extreme Vegan Diets Can Be Very Bad For You. A Nutritionist Explains Why

All a person has to do who wants to avoid all meat is to follow Linus Pauling's supplement recommendations, e.g. 6-18 g vitamin C, 400-800 Vitamin E, 25,000 vitamin A, one or two super B-complexes and a multi vitamin/multi mineral.

Acute Kidney Injury From Biopsy-Proven Renal Oxalosis From Excessive Intake of Vitamin C Leading to End-Stage Kidney Disease

https://www.cureus.com/articles/126427-acute-kidney-injury-from-biopsy-proven-renal-oxalosis-from-excessive-intake-of-vitamin-c-leading-to-end-stage-kidney-disease

Her outpatient medications included ascorbic acid 1000 mg daily, calcium 500 mg, digestive enzymes, docusate 100 mg, cranberry 500 mg capsule, a multivitamin (unknown composition), omeprazole 20 mg, Miralax 17 g daily, and vitamin D 5000 units daily. Given the largely negative workup, it is presumed that her kidney failure due to renal oxalosis was due to vitamin C toxicity.

We cannot call this bad science, as it is merely a case report, and speculation at that
The woman presented with a history of renal disease and no doubt she had calcium-oxalate kidney stones. But the assumption that the vitamin C caused the acute renal failure is assumed without any support. It is unlikely that the vitamin C caused the kidney stones, or even that the kidney stones caused the acute renal failure. Depending on the form of vitamin D, and better case could made blaming the 5000 iu of vitamin D.

Taking vitamin C at the first sign of illness won’t help fight a cold
https://www.9news.com/article/news/verify/health-verify/no-taking-vitamin-c-at-the-first-sign-of-illness-wont-help-fight-a-cold-supplements/536-964e518a-e5d1-469a-9ce9-d95e1e7f0c3f

Who Checks the Fact Checkers?

How does one know that a cold was prevented when it never occurred?

We do know that at the onset, when the clear sinus liquid or tickle in the throat is just beginning, a very high 2 hour vitamin C regimen CAN knock out (prevent?) the cold from occurring. Many people who have tried this, and found out how easy it is to knock out a cold, have lost faith in the medical establishment and their paid minions in the mainstream media.

For those interested in protocols to knock out early cold and flu infections, we have long published
https://www.vitamincfoundation.org/surefire.php

which contains links, e.g.

The effectiveness of vitamin C in preventing and relieving the symptoms of virus-induced respiratory infections
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10543583/

RESULTS: Overall, reported flu and cold symptoms in the test group decreased 85% compared with the control group after the administration of megadose Vitamin C. CONCLUSION: Vitamin C in megadoses administered before or after the appearance of cold and flu symptoms relieved and prevented the symptoms in the test population compared with the control group.

While vitamin deficiencies are much more common, taking in too much of a vitamin, especially when you take vitamin supplements, is a very serious issue

Why Is It Possible To Overdose On Some Vitamins But Not Others?
https://www.scienceabc.com/humans/why-is-it-possible-to-overdose-on-some-vitamins-but-not-others.html

Why is this authoritative sounding article propaganda? Because it is full of distortions and lies, well hidden amongst somewhat reliable information. Too many to list, but here are a few falsehoods.

However, there is still an upper limit on how much of a given vitamin can be processed by the body. For example, regularly taking more than 2 g/day of Vitamin C can cause nausea and diarrhea.

Very few people have a bowel tolerance as low as 2,000 mg (2 g) and many individuals, like Pauling experience the best of health on 10,000 or more milligrams daily. It turns out that using the measure of toxicity called LDL (The Lethal dose level that kills half the lab rat population) Vitamin C is less toxic than water.

Water-soluble vitamins cannot be stored in the body, as they are excreted efficientl

They mean something other than what this is saying, since every vitamin, e.g. Vitamin C is stored in the body within cells. The reason why it takes 28 days to develop frank scurvy when vitamin C intake is cut off is because that is how long it takes to drain the vitamin from cells. They wrongly imply that vitamins are in the blood stream, and only the blood stream.

They are both present in dietary substances, but only in trace amounts. Most toxicity comes through vitamin supplements, primarily overdoses of fat-soluble vitamins.

Again, vitamins are almost always non toxic (as opposed to minerals which can become toxic. The best treatment of this issue is in Linus Pauling's book HOW TO LIVE LONGER AND FEEL BETER.

There's no proof that retinol causes birth defects, but doctors advise avoiding it during pregnancy.

Dermatologists say you should ditch retinol from your skincare routine while you're pregnant — here's why
https://www.insider.com/why-retinol-vitamin-a-is-risky-during-pregnancy-breastfeeding-2023-3

Over-the-counter retinol and prescription retinoids are very popular skincare products.
They contain vitamin A, which is linked to birth defects when ingested too much.
There's no proof that retinol causes birth defects, but doctors advise avoiding it during pregnancy.

Actually, as revealed in Roger J William's great book NUTRITION AGAINST DISEASE, a lack of vitamin A during pregnancy has been proven to cause birth defects, but of course today's doctors have no knowledge of this. Vitamin A is required for and promotes cell DIFFERENTIATION, which is "slightly" important during pregnancy. In fact, the reason vitamin A is so effective, in soft cancers especially, is because cancers are undifferentiated cells rapidly dividing. Vitamin A causes these highly aggressive cancer cells to differentiate into harmless cells that can't divide.

Recommended cancer dosages are around 100,000 IU. (I'll wager anyone surviving a very aggressive cancer has found out about and used vitamin A).

In the William's book he cites a case where farmers were experiencing various birth defects in their stock. Swine I believe. After much research, they found that the feed they were using was missing vitamin A. When the vitamin A was restored, the animals had normal childbirths without defects.

Pauling knew Williams and on this is one reason Pauling recommends such a high amount of vitamin A, something like 25,000 IU daily. (I have noticed that our "other worldly" oracle never recommends vitamin A supplements, implying that foods contain what we need.)

People Who Should Limit Their Intake Of Vitamin C Tablets
https://ng.opera.news/ng/en/health/27a3fb4188e8d9cc714b48b9c3d8fc33

This could have been somewhat helpful, but starts off with the debunked myth that vitamin C causes kidney stones.

Then the iron overload scare - which at the end, Dr. Cathcart did not believe was a real issue.

And finally the "gastro intestinal" issues. Yes, if you take more than you need, your body rids itself of the excess through the rear end. However, the liposomal forms are fully absorbed into the blood stream, and bowel tolerance isn't an issue at all.

So the people who should limit their intake of vitamin C tablets are those who don't want optimum health.

Vitamin C and E stimulate the formation of new blood vessels in cancer tumors
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-12465959/Doctors-urge-caution-using-popular-supplement-youre-cancer-risk-speed-tumor-growth.html

Maybe this is a real study, maybe not, but it is always questionable when some outlying study appears out of no where?

Stimulating "the growth" of blood vessels has always seemed strange to me. How would a new blood vessel grow? And even if this finding/data is correct, it doesn't reduce the need for antioxidants to fight and PREVENT cancers.

And how could they know that you should only fear supplements, not anti-oxidants in foods?

Combining These Supplements Is Actually So Dangerous, Doctors Say
https://www.shefinds.com/collections/dangerous-supplement-combinations/#slide-4

To shed some light on a few supplements you should never take together, we checked in with Dr. Kevin Huffman, founder of Ambari Nutrition. He told us that vitamin D and calcium, vitamin C and iron, and tea supplements and iron are all combos that should be avoided for your health and safety. Read on to learn more.

So dangerous... There may be some validity to these known interactions, or suspected interactions, but they are not dangerous. No one dies, like they do taking prescription medications. Few if any would get sick. So dangerous.

This is simply a pathetic effort to make supplements seem like drugs to the naive.

VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS POPPING RANDOM PILLS MY BE DANGEROUS
This article is some fact with outright lies interspersed. So bad they won't let you copy and past any content or title.

Ditto another article circulating today:

https://www.lifestyleasia.com/ind/beauty-grooming/wellness/vitamins-to-avoid-with-high-blood-pressure/
Popping a vitamin pill for good health may seem like a simple method to supply your body with essential nutrients. However, be wary of the health risks it can invite over time. Even though rare, the consumption of certain vitamins can affect your health adversely if you have conditions like high blood pressure

Bringing out the Big Guns (Scientific American) to attack Pauling.

Almost everything said about Pauling is a lie and defamatory.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/arti ... cle-cures/

In the early 1970s, two-time Nobel Prize–winning chemist Linus Pauling claimed that vitamin C could cure the common cold. [High dose vitamin C can, and does stop viruses, including the common cold: See https://vitamincfoundation.org/wp/vitamin-c-the-common-cold-and-the-flu/ for evidence] Ignoring protests from other scientists, [What other scientists? Quackbusters, yes, but scientists?]

Pauling’s popular books sparked a public love affair with vitamin pills. The fact that vitamin C had no effect on the magnitude or severity of colds proved no impediment to it exploding in popularity, [Outright lie. Pauling cited the studies showing that fairly low dose vitamin C did affect that magnitude and severity. Vitamin C become popular because people found out for themselves that vitamin C does work, and at higher doses, it works better. Want conventonal evidence: See: [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10543583/] filling pharmacy shelves even today.

A deficit of evidence did nothing to dampen Pauling’s enthusiasm, [Pauling cired the evidence in his 1970 book Vitamin C, the Common Cold and the Flu] and he later wrongly heralded vitamin C as a cure for cancer and AIDS. [Outright lies. Pauling never claimed vitamin C cured cancer, and he and Cameron wrote a book showing that cancer patients lived longer taking high dose vitamin C. He never mentioned AIDS. A researcher at his institute did do work on Vitamin C and AIDS.]

More recently, vitamin D was heralded as a panacea for everything from cancer to cardiovascular disease—claims that were drastically overhyped and ultimately signified nothing. Like Pauling, the influencers of Instagram and TikTok similarly ignore such evidence, pushing signature supplement blends to massive audiences. Such branded multivitamin mixtures are extremely popular, retailing for massively inflated prices. But they are completely indistinguishable from generic, cheap multivitamins available in pharmacies anywhere. Intravenous vitamin drips have soared in popularity, too, despite conferring no benefits and being linked, in some cases, to user deaths. [Lies, more lies, damned lies] The implied medicinal benefits of these concoctions are profoundly disingenuous. In the U.S., U.K. and elsewhere, supplements are deemed food rather than medicine, subject to minimal regulatory oversight. In some cases they do not even contain the listed ingredients.

It may just be a coincidence, but I'd like to think that our recent Twitter/X campaign, a series of messages on Pauling's invention of the cure for heart disease, had something to do with the direct mention of Pauling in this hit piece. Notice no mention of heart disease ... he he he

Latest attack false. Notice the lack of references.

If you take more Vitamin C than this in a day, these health problems will occur
https://english.newstracklive.com/news/if-you-take-more-vitamin-c-than-this-in-a-day-these-health-problems-will-occur-sc53-nu371-ta371-1310615-1.html

Gastric Distress. See: Cathcart's Titrating to Bowel Tolerance. The sicker one is, the more vitamin C is required before any "Gastric Distress" begins.

Excessive intake can overwhelm the body's capacity to absorb and utilize Vitamin C efficiently.

False: Actually, high vitamin C without gastric distress is a strong signal the body is utilizing the vitamin. Only that ascorbate which doesn't make the blood stream, continues down the GI Tract and causes loose stools. Note, Excessive intake, say in mono, is more than 200,000 mg per day.

Cathcart's TITRATING TO BOWEL TOLERANCE: https://www.vitamincfoundation.org/www.orthomed.com/titrate.htm

As a result, unabsorbed Vitamin C accumulates in the intestines, leading to osmotic effects and gastrointestinal discomfort. While the body can tolerate moderate doses of Vitamin C, exceeding the recommended intake can trigger digestive issues.

Kidney Stones: Where are the references? No evidence. See: https://vitamincfoundation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15948

Iron Overload. Where are the references. Why in my case, after taking 18,000 mg daily for more than 30 years, is my iron low and hemoglobin low?

Oxidative Stress: All evidence points to the opposite. Vitamin C is the primary antioxidant and reduces oxidative stress. Labs have tried to prove vitamin C increases oxidative stress, but no one to my knowledge has been able to demonstrate such an effect, even if large amounts work outside the cell as a flash oxidant, such as H2O2 or Sodium Chlorite. The overall effect of high vitamin C is to reduce oxidation, especially inside cells.

Understanding the Potential Harm of Overconsumption of Vitamins and Minerals

https://medriva.com/health/dietary-health/understanding-the-potential-harm-of-overconsumption-of-vitamins-and-minerals/

The basic problem with this (and most of these propaganda articles) is the headline, and balance.

No where does "Anthony Raphael" mention that people die every year from overdoses of pharmaceutical medications. The AMA once estimated that these hospital-induced deaths are the third leading cause of death in America (behind cardiovascular disease and cancer).

How many people die from vitamin overdose? Zero. (The last person to be known to have potentially died from a "vitamin" was about 30 years ago. An associate of Roger J Williams researched the death, and the person drank literally a bucket of carrot juice.)

Vitamins are extremely safe.

Minerals are safe when properly dosed.

Most pharmaceuticals are literally poison, requiring careful attention by your doctor.

Is it possible to have too many antioxidants?
https://www.livescience.com/health/food-diet/is-it-possible-to-have-too-many-antioxidants

Antioxidants have long been touted as disease-fighting molecules, and it's easy to assume that the more of them you eat, the healthier you will be. But research shows that larger doses can actually be harmful.

But compared with food, supplements make it easier to exceed the recommended doses of antioxidants, which can actually be harmful.

It gets worse as everything mentioned in this article has been retracted or dis-proven, yet Clarissa Brincat (if there is such a person)
states the following falsehoods as if they are facts.

More seriously, high doses of beta-carotene may increase the risk of lung cancer and cardiovascular disease in individuals already at high risk for these diseases, such as current and former smokers and people who have been exposed to asbestos.

Note the original study/loud news story data about beta carotine was reevaluated independently by Yale researchers who found no correlation when the data was analyzed in its entirety. (The original researchers cherry picked data to try to smear beta carotene)

There's also evidence from studies of animals and human tissue suggesting that antioxidants can encourage the growth and spread of some cancers.

Basically a lie. The opposite is true. This propaganda is based on the finding that low doses of vitamin C may encourage cancer growths. It ignores the mountain of evidence that the appropriate high-dose vitamin C (and other antioxidants) are one of the best cancer fighters.

In addition, high-dose vitamin E supplements have been shown to interact with certain medicines, such as aspirin, warfarin, tamoxifen and cyclosporine A. They've also been tied to an increased risk of early death in people with chronic disease.

Where are the references? What type of interaction? The vitamin E "interaction" is largely imagined, more of a rumor, and this bogus concern is repeated by ignorant doctors and hospitals across the USA.

These studies suggest that, yes, having excessive amounts of antioxidants can be bad for you — but why? One reason is that low amounts of free radicals can actually be helpful.

No, not a single study suggests this, and free radicals "can" actually be helpful? There are always questions in real science, but garbage in, garbage out. Most of the "science" she refers to is marketing material produced by pharmaceutical companies.

"There is lots of evidence indicating that free radicals have beneficial roles in physiological processes," Ismail Laher, a professor of pharmacology at the University of British Columbia, told Live Science in an email. At low concentrations, free radicals help cells grow and are part of the body's defense mechanism against disease. They are also involved in the metabolism, or breakdown, of drugs and participate in cell-to-cell communication.

Even if true, not all free radicals are quenched by anti-oxidants. Oh if it were only true, if it really was the case that we could stay young and beautiful forever just by taking vitamin C...
