A New Look at Atherosclerosis Repeatable Science Ushers in a New Era of Medicine

This paper is dynamite. If you are a heart patient, print and bring a copy of this paper for your physicians, especially your cardiologist(s). I don't think a better case for vitamin C (and lysine) could be presented more cogently, directly and authoritatively. I wouldn't pretend tell them what it means, simply ask for their opinion.. he he he :D And wait for the SH$T to hit the fan.. sparks to fly.. emotions to unravel..

Thanks to doctor Wallace in his landmark paper, we learn several new facts!

A second compensatory mechanism is the human ability to recharge spent Vitamin C, to recycle it but reducing it in the red blood cells. This Erythrocytic Recycling can apparently revitalize the body’s entire store of Vitamin C in as little as three minutes[28]. This may be why the progression of atherosclerosis in humans with inadequate Vitamin C takes decades as opposed to months with guinea pigs [30,31].

There is some discussion that intestinal flora in humans may symbiotically produce Vitamin C that can be used by the human host [32]. This may be one potential explanation as to why some individuals do not seem to develop atherosclerosis as quickly as others

After reviewing the results of all the conventional atherosclerosis studies...

In light of these numbers, there is much to be desired in an effective solution to atherosclerosis, heart attack and stroke. As for the benefit of combined therapy with these medications, there is no data. For all that is known, combined therapy may worsen mortality. The studies had to have a large number of participants to have enough power to show these small effects. Overall, the most powerful effect from the medications listed above would be that they help 2.5 percent of patients that take them (statins for five years with prior heart disease where one in thirty-nine was helped). Most of the effects are much less than that.

I was unaware that Dr. Frederick Klenner had published a book!?

Klenner used Vitamin C injections and IVs in doses of 2,000 mg every four hours for problems from polio to snake envenomation showing it to be well-tolerated by patients and effective as an anti-viral, anti-toxin and anti-oxidant. He published several studies in peerreviewed literature and outlined his results in a book about his use of Vitamin C [43-45,48,49]. Notably, prior to the Salk Vaccine for polio, Klenner had 60 out of 60 cases of polio that were cured without any neurological sequelae using Vitamin C in such a dose. He reported no adverse events from this.

And sure enough, he did along with Irwin Stone and Robert Cathcart

Regarding the "book" 80 Years of High Dose-Vitamin C Research," it is a collection of research papers and articles, including a few that we had been trying to locate. The bound collection of papers is really a tribute to Irwin Stone (and Fred Klenner, MD and Robert Cathcart III, MD).

One paper is from the year 2005 Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine,

In this article by Andrew Saul we learn the following about Irwin Stone (the chemist who first brought the amazing properties of ascorbic acid to the attention of Linus Pauling:

. . In his professional career, 1924-1984, he [Stone] has published over 120 scientific papers and was issued 26 U.S. patents and countless foreign patents.

Three patent applications were filed in 1935 and the patents were granted in 1939 and 1940. Thus, Dr. Stone obtained the
first patents on an industrial application of ascorbic acid. . . By the late 1950s, Dr. Stone’s research on the genetics of scurvy
had progressed to a point where it could be said that scurvy was not a dietary disturbance, but was a potentially fatal problem in medical genetics. Ascorbic acid thus did not behave like trace vitamin C but was a stress-responsive liver metabolite produced endogenously in large daily amounts in the livers of most mammals, but not in humans. Between 1965 and 1967 he produced four papers describing a human birth defect existing in 100% of the population due to a defective gene in the human gene pool, the potentially fatal genetic liver enzyme disease, which he named “Hypoascorbemia”, as the cause of scurvy. He had difficulty publishing his hypoascorbemia work because the ideas were so advanced and contrary to the existing theories of the etiology of scurvy.”

Furthermore, here is an early case report of vitamin C being used to "treat" cancers - remove all symptoms so the host could live a more normal life: And note that the blood levels maintained in the cancer patient were 35 times normal!

Another was Albert Szent-Gyorgyi. In a 1982 letter,14 Stone tells Szent-Gyorgyi of a friend of his who, was diagnosed with
prostate cancer at age 44 and then treated with surgery and radiation. A few years later, the cancer had metastasized to the
pelvic bone and the patient was declared terminal and given about a year to live. However, Stone writes:

“Since he began taking 80 grams a day in 1979, his well-being has been excellent. He says he feels great most of the time,
has also been able to continue working every day and lives a fairly normal life of the years since November 1978 when
orthodox medicine said he would be dead. Visually he looks more like an athlete than a terminal cancer patient...

In the last few weeks he has been able to improve his well-being by increasing his ascorbate intake to 130 to 150 grams per day!
He has been taking oral doses every hour of 5 to 10 grams of a mixture of nine parts sodium ascorbate plus one part ascorbic
acid dissolved in water. These doses are well tolerated and within “bowel tolerance” and he has had no trouble from
diarrhea except just lately when he had to reduce the 150 grams a day to 130 grams.

I believe his case is a classic and a good demonstration that if sufficient ascorbate is given to fully counteract all
the incident stresses, then the cancer can be controlled. If given early enough in this disease, then cancer may no longer
be a problem. Up to now we just haven’t realized how big these daily controlling doses have to be.”

Stone adds that the man’s doctor ran some ascorbate determinations on Joe’s blood and came up with the highest blood levels I ever saw. At one point it was 35 mg%! Our so-called “normal” but scorbutic population averages 1 mg% or less, our kidney threshold is 1.4 mg%...

I would like to see a crash ascorbate program started on terminal cancer patients using doses in the ranges found to keep his
cancer under control. Since these “terminals” have been abandoned by orthodox medicine, they have nothing to lose but
their ill health.”
