Iron levels dropping

Post by jimmylesante » Sat Apr 29, 2023 1:18 am

Hi
I have a 70 yr old female who has had a gastric bypass about 6 yrs ago.
Her iron levels keep dropping for example:
Nov 2022 iron level 7 ferritin 2 then infused and kept dropping untill next infusion below
25/02/2023 had 500ml iron infusion
03/03/2023 iron level 28
17/03/2023 iron level 17 ferritin 64/3
31/03/2023 iron level 25 ferritin 55
28/04/2023 iron level 49 ferritin 25

Any ideas she is taking iron biglycinate tablets with vitaminc and still seems to be dropping.
Is this a bleed or just non absorption? Or CKD?

She may have internal bleeding, need to have it checked out.

Infuse a few grams of Glutathione and than recheck.

Is this to vasodilate and then check?
I suppose a CT scan with dye will also show a bleed?
Wouldn't a bleed also reduce Haemoglobin and or red blood cell count? Unless it was slow and gradual.??

No.

Possibly yes, if it's internal.

Yes it would reduce Hemoglobin.

Test, help find why the parameters in your 1st post are falling. Would help in locating the precise fault.

BTW, I think I know the answer, but since you are smart don't want to spoon feed...feel free to email, if you fail which I doubt.

Rereading Anthony William/Medical Medium, Life Changing Foods on page 152, I found this tidbit:

The sulfur in onions makes them wonderful for alleviating joint pain, degeneration, discomfort, and for repairing tendons and connective tissue. If you have an iron deficiency, onions are also very helpful because their sulfur content slows iron loss.

So....iron infusions happening . Bumping up to 50 but over 2-3 months gradually reduces iron to 15 and ferritin to similar 15 figure. Latest eGFR 76. History of stomach bypass.
