Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) - The Anti-Fat Vitamin?

Focus on Hong Kong Dr. Leung's vitamin B5 discovery that megadoses of pantothenic acid maintain metabolism of a calorie deficit, leading to sustained weight loss without hunger, weakness or ketosis

Ahhh. I see, and that would be more expected on a low-carb diet. This is what the late Dr. Atkins, a cardiologist, observed in his patients when they reduced carbs - "better" (usually lower) cholesterol numbers.

I have been taking just 1800-2400 of Now Pantethine. Below is my 3 rd week report.

Pros:

1) Lost 1 pound.

2) Even facial skin tone.

3) 60% reduction of facial oil and 80% reduction in white heads.

Cons:

Losing skin oil from hands and legs making skin to crack all over.

Lost a lot of hair! :?

Some anecdotal fuel for the fire--- Since I started taking daily 3g. Pantothenic acid and 600mg. Pantethine two months ago, I've lost 10 lbs. without consciously changing my diet. Maybe I am not quite as hungry or maybe I'm a little more active. But I haven't deliberately tried to eat less or exercise more. I've also added 12.5mg. Iodine from lugol's solution so that may have factored in. Not very scientific I know, but I'm happy nonetheless. Lol, I put on a pair of jeans the other day and they were really tight and I thought, "Oh great, I'm gaining weight." Turns out they were my son's, size 34" waist!

4 weeks of Pantethine use and I had to bring down the dosage to 1 capsule every alternate day due to the extreme skin dryness it was causing. I have never witnessed such skin dryness before, soles of my feet were just flaking away. I developed white patches on my feet what looked like ulcers but were just manifestation of extreme loss of oil from the skin. I didn't lose any weight.

That's a shame. Are you taking any other B vitamins? I increased my intake of biotin and added inositol along with an increase in B complex. Sometimes individual B vitamins can cause problems.

I'm not recommending you resume your high b5 intake but you could try adding inositol and biotin to see if it helps clear up your symptoms. From what I've read it seems the body can use the "wrong" b vitamin in a pinch to perform the functions of the "right" b vitamin, with bad results long term.

Might be a poor place to post this, but I again landed in the hospital. Intestinal obstruction from really poor eating. Could not keep down a drop of water, so until I got my IV cortisol, and the inflammation subsided, I was plugged. (My brother sneaked me sodium ascorbate when I was able to take clear fluids, and it worked its magic like a charm! Great laxative..)

Its a conundrum that if this happens - and you cannot take medicine (e.g. hydrocortisone or vitamin C) by mouth - there are no good options. (I am going to start carrying fiber and enzyme tablets with me - for every meal. And part of the issue may be a lack of digestive enzymes from my resected pancreas)

The reason for posting here is that I stopped taking everything - including my 10 g of vitamin B5.. And a strange thing happened. I got a very unusual strong erection at the hospital... Maybe some kind of B5 "rebound" effect? I don't know, strange - and embarassing.

Home and well as vitamin C saved the day. And I'll pitch the great documentary CANCER CAN BE KILLED again here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0748NNDK8 because I've had time to watch it twice. The Vitamin C as a "trojan horse" for sugar is an excellent metaphor.

YA THINK!

Let’s see! Type 1 Diabetes Maybe that would say something about your pancreatic function??

Instead of writing a book on this here’s some reading!

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2798169/

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4513827/

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2798170/

Just maybe!! With the proper testing and proper treatment a lot of the other problems you are experiencing also, might just magically disappear??

Thanks for the homework! But its not just testing, right? I mean, I probably need to replace the missing enzymes, and since there is no harm, it seems like good insurance. (And since pancreatic enzymes are John Beard's answer to cancers, there is a dual benefit.)

A good reader may have noticed I mentioned an abnormal (and strong) erection after stopping 10 g ordinary B5 cold turkey. The next day in the hospital.

Another male in our weight loss study, had not read or known about my experience, and just reported the same effect after he stopped his 10 grams of B5. (In his case, he ran out, and is taking a respite waiting for our B5 Brownies). But his effect was even more surprising.

There is a definite rebound effect to stopping 10 g of B5 in males. A profound effect that I hope we can someday research and understand. We are both in our 60s, and we both started in July. So stopping vitamin B5 24 hours before sex would not be a difficult protocol, and would be a LOT cheaper than Viagra :D
