This newly published study adds to the already enormous body of scientific literature demonstrating the beneficial effects of topical vitamin C. Of particular interest here:

  • Demonstration of significant conversion of AA to dehydroascorbic acid (DHAA) in skin;
  • Demonstration of TNF-alpha inhibition by AA. Combined with the previously demonstrated NFkB inhibition by DHAA, it indicates vitamin C blocks two different steps in the TNF alpha/NFkB inflammatory cascade. This synergism possibly explains the excellent anti-inflammatory effects of topical vitamin C in sun exposure.
