Geroscience-guided repurposing of FDA-approved drugs to target aging: A proposed process and prioritization

Post by lolex » Sun Jun 30, 2024 10:55 pm

Abstract

Common chronic diseases represent the greatest driver of rising healthcare costs, as well as declining function, independence, and quality of life. Geroscience-guided approaches seek to delay the onset and progression of multiple chronic conditions by targeting fundamental biological pathways of aging.

This approach is more likely to improve overall health and function in old age than treating individual diseases, by addressing aging the largest and mostly ignored risk factor for the leading causes of morbidity in older adults.

I tried posting a couple of very brief attachments.,.but that seems to have been outlawed on the forum.

So, if you're interested in living longer, here's a link to start your explorations...

Good luck ..it seems to be working for me.... I've coincidentally been using 1,2 & 4 in the list for a while now...

Thanks for posting, we love debates here.

But you are serious? Suggesting repurposing "drugs" (which by definition are foreign to our body thus always toxic) when so many orthomolecular avenues to slow and reverse aging exist?

That is not to say their might be some drugs, developed and derived from healthful properties of plants, that could be useful. I know that Life Extension Foundation, usually a reliable source of information, recommends certain drugs, such as metformin. After my study of the Medical Medium information, I disagree.

The more important first step any human being can make targeting aging is to overcome our major genetic defect, GULO. That is, all should take "replacement" dosages of vitamin C. Due to the GULO genetic defect, we make no ascorbate (vitamin C) out of the glucose we eat.

Animals of our body weight would make on average 9000 mg of ascorbate (vitamin C) in the livers (or kidneys)

Pauling computed that half of the vitamin C taken by mouth is lost during digestion. This was his stated rationale for taking 18,000 mg of ascorbic acid daily.
