Glad to know high lp(a) is not a death sentence

I found your forum after reading your book, Practicing Medicine without a license. A little about my background.

I am fairly healthy 50 year old with a strong family history of heart disease. My mother about 8 years ago had to have emergency surgery for both of her femoral arteries which were occluded to the point it became an emergency situation. They removed the diseased arteries from both sides and replaced them both with artificial tubes. She was told that each artery was full of a “chicken fat” like substance. She then learned that her LP(a) levels were sky high. She learned that it was hereditary and urged me to get tested.

They did a full Cardio IQ on me and I was found to have a LP(a) of 346 nmol/L. Nothing really looked very well I had 11 different panels that were either too high, too low, or abnormal. They urged me to start a statin. I held off for a few years and then started a statin about 2 years ago (20mg of Lipitor). A year ago I developed high blood pressure and was put on medication. At that point, I changed my diet to a whole food plant based Vegan diet and began to exercise at least 30 mins of cardio a day. Most days I am now up to about an hour a day. My numbers have improved, but my blood pressure is still dependent on meds. My weight is good. I am 185lbs at 5’11”.

After reading your book I feel relieved to know that the LP(a) is not a death sentence! I have been on Pauling Therapy now for about 2 weeks. I am taking 6000mg of vitamin C, 6000mg of Lysine, and 2000mg of Proline. I talked to my naturopathic doctor and decided to go off the statin. She has not heard of the Linus Pauling therapy, but she is open minded. I am hopeful that this will start to heal and clean my arteries and hopefully prevent a heart attack.

Thanks so much.
Keith
I am glad you found Pauling, went off the statin drugs. Your protocol is probably adequate. Vitamin C might be low and proline might be high for most people, but with your Lp(a) numbers, 2 g makes sense. I'm looking forward to you reporting on your case.

For high blood pressure, the basic therapy should have a good effect, but if not, you might consider adding magnesium, taurine, vitamin B6, maybe potassium.

Keep us informed.
